Hello parents and students,
I know this is a very strange time for all of us, but here is what I would like you to do to keep up with your ELA while you're off.  You have your "Group Reading Journal" notebook in your ELA binder and a novel to go with it (either Elephant Run, The Wadjet Eye, or Camp X).  Inside the front cover of the journal is a "roadmap" that lays out a timeline for when and how you should do the different activities connected with certain sections.  Only do the activities once you have read the chapters that go with them.  Finish the activities for that section, THEN read the next section.  Do not read ahead. Some students are working together online, but if that is not an option, find someone at home that can be your reading partner.
PARENTS - here is where I need your help.  Since this was intended to be a group read where we could stop and ask questions/discuss things that don't make sense, your son or daughter will need someone to read this book with them, taking turns each reading a page.  Following the road map, when you get to the end of a section, complete each activity in the row.  If you need the activity sheets listed (if you didn't already put them into your notebook), you can stop by the school and pick them up by tomorrow.  This project was going to be done at school every other day, and in the past, this took until about June to complete if done properly.  Completing this book project will keep your son or daughter in line with some of the curricular outcomes for grade 7 and 8, and will keep them engaged in learning while at home.  As an added bonus, they are all pretty good books that you will likely enjoy as well (I enjoyed them).  Take care and stay healthy!
